City of Toronto Survey: Street Furniture Program Survey
In 2007 the City of Toronto entered into a 20-year agreement with Astral Media for the supply, manufacturing, installation and maintenance of approximately 25,000 street furniture elements, including transit shelters, litter bins, benches, postering structures, information pillars and automated public toilets. The agreement provides Astral with advertising exclusivity on select Street Furniture elements. In return, the City benefits from free installation and maintenance of furniture, revenue sharing from advertising, and other community benefits. This agreement ends in August 2027, giving the City a chance to explore opportunities to reimagine street furniture to better support accessibility, equity, safety, cleanliness, and sustainability.
